I would like to
emphasize a more personal approach to home improvements. Without a
reference from a friend, an interested client will have no idea what
I can offer them. I think in most cases, the jobs I get are because
the new client trusted my ability based on the word of their friend.
Almost every job I get is a referral from a previous client. I would
like people to use this as a guide to the way I work. I would like
to explain, via this web site, my abilities and dedication that
their friends were not able to put into words.
In school, all of my courses were geared to building construction. I
took a bunch of courses I had no interest in, just so I could build
the furniture test piece for that year. Coffee tables, end tables,
foot stools, whatever. It was something my father did at a master
craftsman’s level and some of that must have rubbed off on me.
Somewhere in a dusty old drawer, I have an award for completing
more than the required number of credits.
With that, I decided banking was the life for me. I spent a while at
CIBC where my mother was a well-liked and respected financial
officer.
In October of 1986 I bought my house and the RENOVATOR in me jumped
into action. I was a postal worker then and when I wasn’t playing
golf after work I was doing work for my mail customers. There are
not many houses in the Northshore Blvd. area that I haven’t painted
or fixed in some way or another.
I plunged into renovations full time when I quit the post office to
move to Cleveland to be with my wife and build our home there.
Before long I realized my services were needed more back home.
Upon returning, I worked for both of the major home improvement
retailers. For two long years I watched the retailers, builders and
renovators prove what I think most of us already know. They really
don’t care about you. They care about how much you intend to spend.
I have seen retailers convince buyers they needed something they
didn’t too many times. I’ve watched builders persuade their clients
to do ridiculous things in order to drain more money from them.
The worst is going into a home after another builder has been in.
The work that the builders pass as ‘good enough’ amazes me, and they
get repeat work! I promised myself I would work extra hard to be
the opposite of what customers have settled for in the past. I will
provide not only quality and satisfaction, but character and
integrity as well.
Clients have lost control of projects they pay for and have to
settle for what the contractor gives them in the end. In my opinion,
the homeowner is the General Contractor and I work for and answer to
them. I am dedicated to giving my clients exactly what they ask for
or are dreaming of.
